Hey, I'm Faiz.

I'm a software engineer from Malaysia who enjoys taking things apart just to understand how they work.

For the past decade, I've been building web applications, mostly with Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and JavaScript. But the thing that keeps me excited isn't the stack—it's the endless rabbit holes that come with building software.

These are the questions that usually keep me awake.

• Why did this test fail only once every few hundred runs?
• Why is this database query suddenly slow?
• Why does this framework behave differently from what the documentation suggests?
• How can we make this workflow smarter with AI?

I enjoy going beyond the surface. A bug is rarely just a bug. A performance issue is rarely just a slow query. There's usually a deeper story involving architecture, trade-offs, and the invisible systems underneath.

Over the years, I've worked on everything from startups and internal tools to large business applications. I've also built plenty of side projects—not because I always need another app, but because building is my favourite way to learn.

Recently, I've been exploring the intersection between software engineering and AI: building AI-assisted workflows, experimenting with agents, automating repetitive tasks, and figuring out how these tools can help us become better engineers.

This blog is my digital notebook.

It's where I write about things I learn, problems I solve, experiments I try, and the occasional "I can't believe it works this way" discovery.

I don't write because I have all the answers. I write because documenting the journey helps me think better—and maybe helps someone else avoid the same rabbit hole I fell into.
